Overview
The LiveAquaria® CCGC Purple Star Polyp Coral frag (Briareum sp.), is an encrusting soft coral with a mass of purple polyps resembling stars or flowers protruding from green centers. When the heads of the corals retract, the coral looks like a thick purple coating on the rock or surface it covers. A hardy coral with an easy care level and a peaceful temperament, it is ideal for beginner hobbyists.
Aquacultured corals ship from our LiveAquaria® Wisconsin Facility, home of our LiveAquaria® Certified Captive Grown Corals, so they receive the highest level of care from our experienced and professional staff. Aquacultured corals reduce the impact of natural collection, and because they are grown in captivity, are accustomed to a home aquarium where the ideal environment for them is an established reef aquarium with a medium to strong waterflow and moderate to high lighting. Water temperatures should be maintained at 72°-78° F, pH levels between 8.1-8.4, dKH levels between 8-12, and salinity within the range of 1.022-1.025. They require the addition of supplemental iodine and other trace elements to the water.
The LiveAquaria® CCGC Purple Star Polyp Coral frag gets nutrition from organic matter and food particles in the water, as well as algae that grows on their tissues, but they should also receive supplemental feeding of brine shrimp, micro-plankton, or other foods designed for filter-feeding invertebrates especially when housed in reef aquariums that do not contain fish.
